Technical Skills Development

My placement at Genics presented me with the challenge of enhancing the company’s online presence, performance, architecture, and user experience. This project required diverse technical skills, including website analysis, strategic planning, website redesign and optimisation, and monitoring and reporting.

Strategic Actions

To address this challenge, my first step was to comprehensively analyse the website’s current state, identifying critical areas for improvement. Armed with this knowledge, I developed a strategic plan focused on enhancing user experience, improving content presentation, optimising search engines (SEO), and upgrading the technological infrastructure. This plan guided the redesign of the website and the optimisation of its performance. Additionally, I set up monitoring and reporting mechanisms to track the progress and effectiveness of these changes.

Achieved Results

The result of these efforts was a significant improvement in the website’s architecture and performance. I comprehensively understood the website’s pain points and successfully migrated the site to a new cloud infrastructure, AWS Lightsail. This migration enhanced the website’s performance, and it is currently awaiting approval to replace the old website.

Key Learnings

This placement experience was a valuable opportunity to apply my technical skills in a real-world context. It enhanced my understanding of website performance and user experience and underscored the importance of strategic planning in project management. I also learned to adapt to new challenges and realised the value of continuous learning. This experience has reinforced my belief that continuous learning and adaptability are crucial for my future career in the ever-evolving field of ICT.
